Core Organizational Value of The Family Intervention Team (FIT)

FIT believes that the essence of teaching and subsequent behavioral change lies in the relationships formed between Service Provider(s) and Services User(s). It has been our experience that families respond better to providers who share their values, customs, and institutions. We avoid any presumption that we completely know or understand individual needs, experiences and beliefs. Subsequently the FIT team focuses on building a cohesive alliance with the service user by reframing and recreating the presenting problems as the service user acknowledge them. From the point of intake and assessment, we examine individuals’ beliefs, attitudes and perceptions about Mental Health and Counseling in the light of their cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Using various family strengthening interventions, the FIT program CFIT model embrace a wide range of successful practices such as LEAP, Effective Black Parenting, Wrap Around, Clinical Strategies for Home-Based Therapy and Helping the Non-Compliant Child. FIT program staff has been trained in these intervention models and have incorporated the following practical principles and techniques:

• We use an array of interventions to strengthen and enhance parenting skills and improve parent-youth relationships

• We operate from a strengths perspective practice, to emphasize family resiliency and strengths, to empower them to make internal change

• We practice a team approach, where consistent interaction and effective communication is key to bridging relationships and and partnerships between

parent, child and practitioner

• We advocate to develop desired connections to community agencies and supports to foster permanent family stability

• Our clinical support is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and appointments are varied and flexible based on the family schedule
